About The Artwork

"Socks" 2008-12-02 Two young fashionable girls in Khayelitsha township, smiling and laughing. Taken in Cape Town, South Africa. I took this picture during the time I worked for the Niall Mellon Housing initiative in the townships around Cape Town. These two young ladies were relaxing outside their shack, while some other children were playing around them. I love this image, because I appreciate their unique fashion sense, especially the funky socks! I'm always looking out for these kind of socks to wear myself, such fun. As a large wall giclee print this looks great life-size or as a smaller A3 size print and could be accompanied by another of my black and white African portraits such as "Braids girl" https://www.saatchiart.com/art/Photography-Braids-Girl-Black-and-white-African-portrait-of-a-girl/663433/1868404/view or "The shy three" https://www.saatchiart.com/art/Photography-The-Shy-three-Wild-Coast-South-Africa/663433/1870831/view I shot this with a manual exposure of 1/400 f4 , ISO 100 with my Canon 5D original and 24-70mm lens at 70mm.

Independent Photographic Artist living and working in South Africa. Currently living in Asia, Vietnam. From 2011 - 2013 I lived in a very rural and one of the poorest areas of my own country South -Africa. An area known as the Transkei (apartheid-era homelands to the people of the amaXhosa culture, also birth land to our ex-president Nelson Mandela). It was a very interesting and fulfilling journey getting to know some of the people and a bit of their culture and language. The photographs depict my experience, so you may be able to have a glimpse with me into this very special culture and people, otherwise so cut off from the rest of the world but who has so much to teach us in the modern and developed world. The concept of 'Ubuntu' can be roughly understood by these quotes "I am, because we are" or "Being human is to affirm the humanity of other people". Basically treat other people as you would like to be treated yourself. I've been living in Hanoi, Vietnam since 2019, working on a project "Photo Art Stories" of Vietnam and also working as Photography guide and mentor at Vietnam in Focus, photo tours. https://www.behance.net/lavonnebosman www.wildcoastgypsygirl.blogspot.com
