This is the story of my life. Once upon a time all the villagers were in their humble abodes. when in a flash and a poof there appeared on the hearth, at the feet of a beautiful young maiden, a most curious pixie sized man dressed all in silvery blue. "Who might you be?" the gentle virgin queried, as if this sort of mischief were common and plain. "I am the smallest magic giant that ever was, ever will be" chirped the tiny intruder. The fair lass raised a brow, slightly. She was in a soft chair with a quill pen in hand, preparing to put to paper in list form her notions of a good mate. Be he a man true or fanciful - of her village or of her dreams - I cannot say. "What business have you here?" she asked. "My business is no business of yours, fair damsel," he sneered, "but just for sport, I'll grant you a single wish." The girl thought deeply for a moment. Deeply, indeed, but not a single thought that this was all too strange, and promptly declared "I would like to have a thousand more wishes!" She grinned as broadly as her face would allow, wholly impressed with her cleverness. The elf furrowed his brow, crossed his satiny azure arms and released a shrill bark "You are smart." And then, "Too smart for your own good, perhaps. I'll grant you your wish, your clever wish of a thousand more wishes, I will." Though she sensed there must be more to his speech, she felt she might remove her gaze from his cherubic form. "But, you will soon curse the stars and moon, the heavens and hell, all that is divine and all that is wretched and foul, as you shall find you have bargained more than you dared imagine." He paused, staring her straight in the eyes, as if expecting her to withdraw her request. She didn't consider it, not for an instant, and never blinked. "Well then, so be it, a thousand more wishes..." He trailed off as he rubbed his plum sized hands together so furiously. Turning on his heels, he snatched up the large wooden spoon that was resting on the rim of a nice pot of simmering potatoes, sweet onions and fresh rabbit, and drew it over his glittery capped head in a slow wide arc as though it were a mighty sword and he recited the following words: "God help you for your sins and pray your soul find its way out of the eternal fires of Hades." In a poof and a flash the odd dwarf vanished, and the wooden spoon clattered onto the bricks of the hearth. Then, through the mist and sparkle that swirled in his wake echoed his raspy voice "You are a greedy bitch.
