Title: 'Stitching Fillets'

‘Stitching Fillets’ was shot on a Christmas road trip from Busselton to the Sunshine Coast last December with my wife and 3 young children. I was fortunate to undertake a number fixed wing aerial shoots during the trip including this one in South Australia.

The image inspired a number of interpretations from judges at various awards. Including UFOs, ECG sensor pads or Buttons stitched to the water’s surface. I am always searching for some sort of order between the natural and manmade environments, and believe this image expresses that.

Shot in the afternoon, the fading light coupled with the deep blue of the Southern Ocean, accentuated the contrast of the sea with the colour and tone of the fish pens.

Ty’s fine art images embody an interplay of time and texture, focus and foundation — a search for what is often left unseen, unappreciated and uncommon. Views from aloft, compositions of time, and renditions to highlight the details that collectively compose the beauty that is all around us. His current projects communicate the contrasts between the rigid structure and influence of man, and the organic fluid forms and textures of nature. Born in Natal, South Africa, Ty became enamoured with the natural world from an early age. His enthusiasm for exploration, attention to detail and education in the sciences, ultimately led to a pursuit in photography where he is able to document the intricacies of the world that surrounds us. In 2018, Ty was awarded the AIPP WA Commercial Photographer of the Year, International Photography Awards (IPA) Winter Sports Winner, IPA Fine Art: Abstract Runner-up, Australian Photography Awards Landscape Finalist (x3), and was selected for the LensCulture Emerging Talent Awards. More recently he was selected as a Landscape Finalist for the Head On Photography Awards and was awarded the 2019 Prix de la Photographie Awards, Paris, Fine Art Photographer of the Year. Ty currently resides in Busselton, Western Australia with his amazing wife and three ‘spirited’ young children who are his inspiration, driving force and keep life real.
