Telluride #2, Colorado, 2008 Photograph

Frequent roadtrips from his childhood home near the West Coast of Michigan triggered Jonathan Balck's on-the-roadness, compelling him to visit 50 U.S. States, dozens of National Parks and many European landscapes, with many more to go. Mr. Balck began making pictures in earnest after a layoff cost him a job but gained him a severance-financed Nikon N65 camera and six weeks to drive around the American West with his brother. Since then, he has attempted to convey the motion and beauty and restless energy of traveling with landscape and abstract pictures. He has lived in Detroit, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Miami and currently resides in Boulder, Colorado. Equipment: Nikon SLR cameras and lenses, Canon G11
