This image is called The Body Politik:Socialism and is part of the series The Body Politik. In this series I explore our political ideologies not as perfect ideals, but as bodies that are struggling against themselves. I take no sides. No ideology is necessarily right or wrong. but they all become corrupted in reality. These photos are metaphors of the struggle between the ideal and the reality.

I was born in Sheffield in 1972. My familymoved to Australia when I was 2. I now live in Western Australia but have lived in South Korea and the Czech Republic. I have been taking photographs since I was very young.I love the way technology helps merge different forms of art. Buddhism and Surrealism are my main influences.I have worked in the photographic and graphics industry. I've always been interested in dark and visionary fantasy. Art that questions reality. Surealism is a big influence as are artists as diverse as Goya, Francis Bacon, DeSade, William Burroughs, Joel Peter Witkin, H.R Giger etc http://www.cristiantownsendphotography.com
