The Butterfly Tree - Limited Edition 2 of 11 Photograph

A couple of summers ago I did a series of tintypes using butterflies. I wanted to show the fleeting quality of life and used butterflies to symbolize this. In this particular tintype, the butterflies turned out faint -like little hints, and figure itself carries the feel of the work. Also, I poured the chemicals onto the plate sloppily and it resulted in an unevenly developed piece, with darker places where the developer was not flowed to plate smoothly. I love this effect very much as it lends a sort of organic feel to shape of the image. I also like very much how the arm mimics the trunks of the trees...something I did not actually notice while I was looking into the ground glass at the back of the camera. The original plate is 8x10 and was scanned before varnishing. The print I offer here is 11x14. I print onto Crane's Museo Max paper, 365 gsm, and I use the Epson K3 archival inkset for all my prints.
