About The Artwork

The impetus for the creation of a series of works under the title served as the film The Matrix, and the book The Difference Engin. In my view, the mechanisms of the machine - the living beings. And it is unclear what happens to us, to our world. Perhaps we live in a world of machines, or machines live within us?

I appeared to be quite happy about the way my life’s been developing so far. I was born to an artist (my father) and a poet and playwright (my mother). As a boy I lived in a bizarre industrial city of Lyubertsy a life full of contrast and shock. I would often spend the day reading good books on my sofa and listening to the endless conversations about art and the laws of universe, and at night go street fighting with the guys from of an enemy neighborhood. Then came my hippie years – long hair, drugs, hitchhiking, all that stuff. Nice years, nice girls. One of those girls, a well known underground musician Ania Umka even wrote a song “About Goriachkin” (http://zvukoff.ru/song/1549503). In 1990 I emigrated to Israel, then to Canada. But finally I came back to Moscow. It's trite to say so but it was nostalgia that brought me home. A few years later as a press photographer I went to the Chechen war. I just wanted to see what war is like. And saw that the war sucks. After the war as a travel photographer I worked virtually everywhere – from Europe to New Zeland. Now I in the staff of the Russian version of the well-known “Popular Mechanics” magazine. It’s an exciting job, every time we make something wild and thrilling like constructing a real jet engine or making an art exhibition at the North Pole. An I in “National Geographic” and in Zverevski Contemporary Art Center. I’ve had a life-long dream to become a drummer in Robert Plant’s group. No dice. So I became an artist.
