The Grief of Ashok Vaatika We all know the story from the epic Ramayana - when Ravana tried to possess Sita Mata and being grappled by the desire to possess the divinely beautiful goddess he kidnapped her and put her in Ashoke Vatika. The garden of No-Grief. In that Garden Sita the Goddess looked pale and feeble. The irony is that though she was dinely beautiful - she was looking unattended and unkempt. She knew she is still the essential part of the life of her husband but still she was in a dilemma wheether ever she will be free of the imprisonment. So she was in grief. Immense grief. This picture depicts the mental condition of the goddess Sita in that garden. In the social perspective - The Kalash or Ghat as we call it is an essential part of our Karma Kanda – rituals, but here it is lying unattended. This Ghat was once the centre of all attraction the pivot of sanctity and divinity but now it is lonely – just like ravana kidnapped sita – utilitarianism has kidnapped this ghat and put it on the floor in an unattended part of an old temple structure – Sunlight is kissing it but it is only accentuating the fungus the cobwebs and the dried leaves. The Mango leaves at the top which once was its crown and devotees thronged to get a sprinkle of holy water from it – is now dry brown. The beautiful paints have shredded and what is left is the burnt earth from which it was born. Afterall the goddess Sita was also born of the mother earth. Conflict: Being grippled by utilitarian materialism Sanatana Dharma and specially its Karmakanda is now in a dungeon.

If I had understood Who I am, Why I am, and How am I, then I would have created something much more beautiful, more poised and fluttering with joy. But as still know none of these and the search is still on - so there is conflict - sometimes intense conflict and it shows in my work. I am the one who is at-once the cause, the witness, and the protagonist of the eternal conflict.
