About The Artwork

‘100 images that changed the world’ by Life Magazine. A photo tracing campaign initiated in Rwanda during the genocide to reunite 21,000 lost children by Séamus Conlan. The process evolved into “The Lost Children of Rwanda” one of the largest traveling photo exhibitions in history by a single photographer. This program is now a standard form of tracing people in developing nations. 80% of the children photographed during this program found a home with a parent or family member. This image is 1 of 100 limited images from a set of 24 images that were made from the original images printed in 1996 in Kenya. A 10 foot by 8 foot panel was built where 527 images were pasted to the panel and then photographed on a 10x8 plate camera to make an original set of masters. This process was done 24 times until we had used over half the images from the program, 12,648 portraits. A further 25 image was then made by assembling the 24 transparencies together from a drum scan to show all of the 12,648 portraits together. This image is signed, dated and numbered. Printed on a polyester-based silver-halide material, Fujiflex Crystal Archive printing material has outstanding image stability with the high gloss, glass looking, Ilfachrome finish. It has optimal gray balance and tonality to produce deep rich blacks, vivid colors, and crisp image.
