About The Artwork

If I read the title of this piece? I'd think 'What a Wanker'...but if you were ME at the time? If you were there? I'd wager you'd laugh with the kind of joy that dances the crazy zig-zaggy-line twixt incredulity, madness and gratitude. I photographed this 'beauty' back in 2002 when I was living in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere... and like a chrysalis, it (the 'shot') has finally metamorphosed from my PC and into the world 17 years later. I've never shared this story before but evidently, it's time. Right, so here's the rub: I was at home, cleaning the windows and thinking the kind of existential thoughts I've either been cursed or blessed with. The movie the 'Truman Show' was on my mind and I was toying with the kinda Buddhist/Sufi idea that our reality/our perception of reality - could be a 'set', 'stage', 'illusion', 'hologram' or 'experiment' (that we've all bought into - after signing some inexplicable energetic clause that we'd become amnesiacs the moment we're born - with the intention of building an internal rudder and finding our way back to Love Source) etc.... To cut to the chase? I stopped polishing and looked around in the half-embarrassed-kinda-way you would (knowing you're miles from anyone and that you're probably actually crazy) because who (or what) would bother to observe your smudgy attempts at domesticity? Or, for that matter, to validate your scratchy hypothesis on existence? Then? Kapow: Bingo Bango, I go to clean the bathroom mirror and THAT'S when I see the most BEAUTIFUL moth ever (had never seen its ilk before - and have never seen one since....and it's just hanging there on the stone wall with these EYES on its wings. If I hadn't managed to capture a picture of it? I'd call the 'men in white coats' myself. Yes, of course it could be a coincidence, yawn, but I laughed and laughed because if there is a 'greater/higher'/'omniscient-kinda' being? She's hilarious, exquisite and beyond beautiful. Yay. Now both the photo AND the story, have winged their way 'out there' from me to you.. 17 years after the 'event. Wham!
