Art Description

Photography: Cyanotype, Blue Print, Contact Print, Handmade Paper, Collage on Paper.

Framed, small original, circular mixed media cyanotype.
Hand-brush coated.
Hand finished with deckled edge.
Handprinted on handmade ivory recycled cotton rag paper.

This piece was inspired by the Bronte Sisters, celebrating their literary lives, their imaginations and their unwavering sisterly bond.

The Three Sisters Study was created by photographing a hand-cut collage of female portraiture and a hand printed TB cell structure from an antique microscope slide combined with surface textures from hand printed chemigrams. The digital negative was then contact printed onto hand made circular paper that had been brush coated with chemicals, before drying in a dark room. Once exposed to light, the piece was washed to develop a cyan blue colour and pressed dried.

Dimensions - 148mm diameter (unframed) 210mm diameter (framed) x 30mm frame depth x 13mm frame face

Paper - Handprinted on handmade ivory recycled cotton rag paper: 150gsm / 100% Cotton Rag / Recycled / Acid Free / PH Neutral / Medium Rough

Mount - It is recommended to float mount this piece when framing.

Framing - This artwork is sold framed. Float mounted in a bespoke, handmade small sized circular frame. The frame is a deep box frame, museum grade, UV protected, anti reflective glass fronted and with a smooth white finish.

This is taken from a series of cyanotypes based on females in history and mythology. Ones who particularly inspire me, deserve to be recognised and celebrated as powerful figures in time.

I want to visually tell a story with each piece to celebrate the lives of these amazing women using portraiture, symbolism and surrealism.

I expose all my pieces in natural light for up to a couple of weeks. Printing in all weather conditions, doing everything by eye and in the most organic way possible, this enable me to be at one with each piece I create.
