About The Artwork

Fantasy organizes our experience of everyday reality and tells us who we are. Childhood is like that as well. Our childhood tells us who we are. What children expect being an adult will be is formed by their early experiences (cultural, socio economic, exposure to the media, identity formation, etc) and limited by the fantasy world they understand as real. The results are unrealistic but charming, a storybook version of life. The childhood we long for as adults is also forgivably constructed of fantasy. This body of work is inspired by the Madeline storybooks and constructs a fantasy of the return to childhood splendor. An underlying assumption is that through taking responsibility for our pretends we are most able to return to a state of grace.
