Art Description

Photography: Digital, Black & White on Paper.

There are many talented artists in my family. My brother, Bob Deever, SMSgt (ret), USAF, took this one in San Antonio.

After I received his photo, it was cropped and toned for a foundation that would allow many versions of it to be created from it. Naturally, the original was saved in case I decided to crop and tone a different way for an altogether different approach.

Upon determining a base look, I then experiment with 20 to 60 versions of it - changing colors, applying filters, embedding additional images, digitally painting them and transforming them from a recognizable photograph into this altogether new work.

However, as soon as I saw it, I knew it could only be presented in black and white.

"Tougher Than They Look" has been recognized in multiple black and white art competitions - originally created to lift the spirits of someone close to us who had suffered life-changing injuries in a serious accident.
