Tower Theater - Limited Edition 1 of 9 Photograph

This limited edition metal print is from a 4 year photo project I was immersed in while living in downtown Los Angeles. It was included in my solo exhibition at Gloria Delson Contemporary Arts Gallery on Spring Street in June 2014. The Baroque Revival style Tower Theater was the first air conditioned theater in Los Angeles. It was designed by the same architect as the Los Angeles Theater (also photographed as part of this collection). Like a lot of the iconic theaters on Broadway in Los Angeles, it has set mostly empty for the of the past 2 decades. It is currently slated (2016) to become an Apple Store. I tend to "stalk" my subjects watching and waiting for buildings to reveal themselves, always being ready to capture their most intriguing moments. The Tower Theater took several years to find the moment where sunlight rakes across the side while simultaneously reflecting on the front facade giving the building depth and personality. The "Ghost Sign" on the adjacent building is an important element that situates my photographic interpretation in time and place. This image is printed on aluminum with a dye transfer process that combines heat and pressure to embed the image into a coated substrate. It is a robust and archival medium that should last well over 100 years. There is a floating frame on the back of the metal print that stiffens the artwork and provides a hanging mechanism.
