Ferns are among the oldest plants on earth, with fossil records dating back hundreds of millions of years. Their elemental beauty and grace has always attracted me. They are present in one form or another on walks in the woods, on the moors and on mountains. Simple tonality works best for me, rendering the ferns in a pure, fundamental way. Born in 1955 in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and could not wait to get away. Spent time after finishing an ignominious school career in Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan Pakistan, India and Nepal. Then studied Photography at Sheffield Poly, starting in 1979. Did Teacher Training and taught for 1 year at a school in North London which was more than enough. Subsequently worked for Warner Brothers in a non photographic capacity and the BBC both Teaching and Photographing. I have recently returned to working with traditional, wet processes alongside digital. The images in my portfolio start in the 70's and go through to the present day. www.ianhoskin.co.uk
