Like all the images in this Transformation series, this image is based on Paramahansa Yogananda's "Autobiography of a Yogi" a spiritual text that outlines the path to enlightenment. When the Kundalini is awakened it starts its journey up the spine(via the Sushumna Nadi) from its coiled position in the base Chakra or Muladhara, piercing each energy centre on its ascension. I used a time exposure of a breaking wave and more special effects to create the feeling of this powerful energy on its journey, eventually exploding through the higher centres of the most advanced yogis, usually after years of yogic practice.

I was born in Trinidad and Tobago and travelled all over the world with my parents before settling in The UK for my education. I went to Sherborne School and Reading University before moving to London to be a photographic assistant to many different photographers including Anthony Blake and Spencer Rowell. Then I moved to Australia to further my career in photography that is now 35 years long as a commercial and art photographer in Sydney. I have had several exhibitions including Transformation 1992, Lifeforce 1996, Sahaja 2000, and have completed new spiritual works, The Chakras, 2014 that are shown here on Saatchi Art. I now also teach photography with Alfonso Photo tours in Sydney.
