I create paintings, photographs, and digitally manipulated images. My artwork is included in private collections around the world and has been exhibited in galleries in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York City. My studio is located in rural northeastern Connecticut, where I live with my wife, daughter, and dog. As a self-taught artist with a background in cognitive psychology, my creative approach explores the relationship between perception and emotion. Looking at art naturally and automatically initiates a process of interpretation as the mind attempts to identify, analyze, and make sense of what the eyes are seeing. I am particularly fascinated by how easily this involuntary process can become more complicated when visual stimuli are unfamiliar, vague, or abstract. In general, my work is about the nature of seeing and how visual images can evoke emotional / visceral responses, even when we don't fully recognize or understand what we're perceiving.
