Uwar means mother in Hausa. The image is a picture of a girl carrying what could be her child or her junior sister. It is part of a series of portraits about child beggars in Agege, Lagos, Nigeria. The child beggars have made a life for themselves around the railway line that cuts through Agege, it is here they beg for money, it is here they sleep, it is here they play, it is here they've known their whole lives.
