About The Artwork

Some colourful building in the centre of Tokyo. You always get a different and unique perspective when you crane your neck in Tokyo - there is such a mixture of styles of mostly modern housing and apartment blocks all hodge-podged together, that sometimes it is only when you look up that you are able to distinguish between the sprawl of buildings that are infront of you. This photo was take in the Waseda area of central Tokyo and was blended with a disused carpet that I photographed in the Kokubunji area of West Tokyo. The original artwork is signed and numbered on the back and printed on photographic paper.

I am a London-based documentary and travel photographer and I tell stories of places and people and the relationship between identity and environment. Documentary has always been a passion of mine and it was only a matter of time once I picked up a camera, that I would start looking for stories. I spent most of my 30s living in Japan, which is where my photography journey started. Whilst there I made two self-directed long term photo documentaries: 'Dancing In The Streets' - a story about a member of a homeless dance group and 'Master - An Ainu Story' - which tells the story of a member of the indigenous Ainu community of Japan. ‘Master, An Ainu Story’ has been shown at The ICP Museum, New York in May 2019 and The Brunei Gallery, London from Oct - Dec’18 and my most recent series ‘Living in Lockdown, London’ has been featured on the BBC. I was also a Saatchi featured artist Nov’19. My photos and writing have been published in National Geographic Traveler, China, Tokyo Weekender, Airasia Travel 360, Lava Magazine , Crank Magazine and Edge Of Humanity Magazine.
