Wheat Field And Sky, Mazandaran, Iran - Limited Edition of 1 Photograph

Unique single edition print. I had been living in Iran off and on for a few years in 2007-2009, hoping to make a documentary film about an Iranian school. In the midst of location-scouting this documentary I moved into a small village in northern Iran called Pul - which actually means "money" in Farsi. Most of the people living there are historically Kurdish and other groups - a really interesting community, all living in village farm houses on the side of a hill abutting the agricultural fields of a valley in the Alborz Mountains, which run like a crescent around the northern lip of Iran as it meets the Caspian Sea. Honestly, it was one of the most beautiful places I have ever lived, and my neighbors in the village were all wonderful. This farmer's wheat field was near the small house where I lived in Pul. In 2009 I was out photographing landscapes as the sun set, and I caught this nice moment of stillness, where the wind had completely stopped and there was nothing but the smell of the grasses and wildflowers. It's difficult to describe the beauty of northern Iran, but I think this image begins to capture the unhurried idle of a place still largely detached from the hustle and bustle of modern life that we take so seriously. Being in a place with a long history helps to keep things in perspective and reminds one to focus on the things in life that matter, and to take stock during moments of stillness and meditation. In particular, I like the grandiosity of the sky.
