Can aging flowers transcend superficial aesthetic confines of the traditional flower photography that attempts to bind beauty to the flawlessness of form? In this series of photographs, I’m using flowers in my ongoing exploration of whether beauty can persist in the face of passing time. In contrast to the mainstream flower photography, which exclusively presents flowers as glowing with freshness and aliveness and thus portrays beauty as time-dependent, I question this limited standard by looking at mature flowers that are already past their blooming peak. At this new stage of life, they quietly reveal themselves through their faded colors, weakening stems, and missing petals. Can beauty remain despite the changes in form?
