Once in the Mojave National Preserve, I left my chaotic life behind and took the time to pause, breathe, look, see, and feel the desert pulsate around me. The calmness led to quiet contemplation and opened my eyes to an amazing and diverse landscape. The Mojave National Preserve has a silent, unspoken beauty. A simple beauty. It takes a mind at peace to see its true essence. I would pause to breathe in the desert, and feel my subjects emerge around me. It was only then that I could understand what was before me. Creating images that represented my experiences was the key to my Artist in Residence collection. During my extended time in Mojave National Preserve, I felt the calmness. I saw the minimalism. I sensed the strength and perseverance in what can be a desolate and lonely environment. My images portray solitary strength and serenity in a world that continues to race by us. Pause. Breathe.
