About The Artwork

By transforming photographs into new sculptures, I mix 'crazy' or antithetical aspects into a classification that seems to contradict the nature of photography. The photography is basically referential, as it always carries traces of what was at the moment of exposure in front of the lens. By contrast, the dominant grid of woven objects is initially nothing but a self-sufficient aesthetic arrangement. These patterns convey the impression of ancient or Islamic mosaics. Traditionally, these are ornamental jewelry and invite at the same time for contemplation. Photography is always the image of a past; the moment of exposure lies behind in time, and a photograph therefore always shows a past visual impression. Here, the photographic image, when subjected to various structuring interventions, not only exhibits an image of a past reality, but also presents it as an independent aesthetic object or material thing. In my weave images and my objects, the visible is first of all the exterior, the mantle, which only slowly releases the opposites of the interior to be suspected, that which is hidden in the overlapping layers, with moving consideration. Both picture elements are interwoven. The expression of this connection is invisible because hidden but still existing image fields containing information waiting to be reconstructed.
