Pasquale Proia was born in Fontana Liri, Italy, in 1963. In the 1970s, he developed a passion for the visual arts while watching films at the cinema run by his father. He first approached photography in the darkroom and later worked as a video operator, collaborating with photographer Roberto Folchetti, heir to a historic family of photographers active since the early 20th century. In the 1980s, he began personal experimentation that combined photography and poetry, leading to solo and group exhibitions. Between 1987 and 1988, he attended a training program at the Regional Center for Professional Training in Photo-Cinema in Rome, where he studied with cinematographer Erico Menczer. In the early 1990s, he documented an exhibition of laser works by artist Vincenzo Bianchi and was introduced to advanced imaging technologies. In 2001, he initiated Cromocinetica, a digital photography project focused on color and motion. His video work Is there anybody out there? was selected in 2014 for the V International Videopoetry Festival in Buenos Aires. In 2017, he exhibited at Expo Ex Gallery in Senigallia (Italy), and in 2018 he presented Omaggio a Umberto Mastroianni in Sora and later in Bilbao. His video In Principio la Luce… was included in the Dislocada/Dislocated international exhibition (India and Mexico, 2021; opening video of TERRAIA Festival, 2024). Other works (Gratis, Tribute to Victor Nubla, Estructuras Rotas) were shown and published internationally between 2022 and 2023.
