Limited Edition Number: 1/7
My artwork, entitled,‘....of his old husk: from head to tail; Came out clear plates of sapphire mail’ is from the series, Lux Aeterna. This artwork is a metaphor for planetary light, emergence and transcendence. It was inspired by Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem, The Dragonfly. These beautiful light reflecting and refracting ancient insects (Anisoptera) are considered to be indicators of an ecosystem’s health and are a recurring motif within many of my artworks. The work started life as a layered composite of dragonfly wings, water and discarded plastics collected from an ecologically compromised lake. A work in progress over a period of time; I initially and primarily used an early analog photographic process and aged photographic paper; later highlighting and texturing the work digitally.
I am very fond of working with and extending old, alternative photographic processes as these seem to harness light in an almost magical way. Quite significantly for the environmental premise of my art practice, the alchemical transformation creates a language that dissolves boundaries between human presence and the natural environment.
Each edition is printed on archival, metallic fine art paper.
If preferred the option of a giclee print is available.
A signed and numbered Certificate of Authentification accompanies the artwork.
