This piece was inspired by my love of Nature and examination of how things grow and interconnect. We can see plant life, but don't see the root structures and how mycelium connect plants to each other. I hope to stir an interest in these unseen life forces and to relate this growth to the greater Cosmos. The precision of cutting a relief plate combined with the relative freedom of mixing and layering color is a favored medium. I use archival Japanese Hosho paper as well as colorfast, non-toxic inks.

United States
Multicultural and multinational, I was born and educated in the US of an ethnically diverse background, and have lived in various corners of the world most of my adult life. This international exposure has contributed to a universality in scope. I find my greatest source of inspiration in Nature, her gifts as well as her mysteries. Working in both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional works, I explore the many forms in which the life-force manifests itself. The visual interplay between light and dark, and fine detail countered with empty space express the yin and the yang of our reality for me. Dream visions often guide me in my attempt to bring the diverse elements of our universe, dark and light, biological and spiritual, physical and metaphysical, together, creating New Beginnings in a cosmic sense. As the quiet places become ever more crowded with the noise and clutter of contemporary life, my focus is on the microcosm and the beauty hidden in the molecular structure of all living things. Working in various media, I strive to provide a quiet space in this all too busy world; a moment of serenity in which to suspend time and the almost frantic pace of contemporary life. I now live in the Zuni Mountains, growing food, studying the wild life and creating art in my Coyote Ridge Studio. patihaysart.com
