About The Artwork

First Lady is my homage to the iconic U.K. First Class Stamp which features HRH, The Queen. This re-interpretation uses my X- Ray of the Queen’s profile combined with the well known 1st font used on the first class stamp. The X-ray is the perfect example for me of how we all look the same underneath and the first class stamp with an X-rayed Queen profile reiterates this idea. Further more the font 1st of the stamp allows to add an extra layer of reading for this artwork. The X-rayed profile is completely anonymous but at the same time the stamp bears the writing: 1st This is my first artwork printed directly on aluminium. I love how it catches the light and the nourished silver texture of the surface makes it a super contemporary piece. Digitally printed on brushed silver aluminium in a slim black aluminium frame. The print is signed on the reverse. Size: 80x60cm Edition:10 This artwork is made to order, please allow 7-10 days for production and delivery

I am Ernesto, an Italian artist living and working in London. I use x-rays of my body for my work, which I transform with bold colours and often embellish with gold leaf, glitter, spray paint or Swarovski crystals. All my work is very much colourful and shiny. I often use symbols like crowns (including crown of thorns-religious symbols) and jewels that I superimpose to the x-rays, and then hand embellish them adding sparkle. Those symbols tend do identify a certain status or social position. On the other hand the x-rays instead are free from any social connotation, any prejudice or stereotype and often free form gender and ambiguous and eventually the most judgemental free angle from which a person can be looked at. These X-rayed self portraits convey a message of equality and universal values, of inclusion and diversity. I have exhibited nationally in UK and internationally and my work is collected worldwide.
