About The Artwork

In 2013 Graphic Studio Dublin had a fundraising exhibition in the National Botanical gardens and all artists were asked to make a print of a botanical nature or at least reflecting something of the gardens. After walking around the gardens extensively and photographing loads of plants and flowers I was attracted to these beautiful flowers, or as in some countries they are regarded as weeds, such as Australia. The pure whiteness of the petals contrasts with the lush green of the leaves make it a stunning plant and flower. Another interesting thing about the Cala Lily is it’s symbolism of death. It is sometimes put on coffins when someone dies and every year at the 1916 Easter rising commemoration Cala Lilies are presented in honour of the dead.
