Noticing that rooms in interior magazines hardly ever have cast shadows in them intrigued me and became the starting point for a series of etchings on paper. As cast shadows and any form of mess had been eliminated from these interiors I was, by the inclusion of animals, birds and insects, going to the other end of the scale as these creatures would playfully introduce what was feared most. My work has been described as an edgy Beatrix Potter which I love as I grew up with her books and they were some of my favourite. There is a suggestion of narrative but my intention has always been the phenomenon of the struggle of nature to constantly try to dominate and enter the home. This is pretty autobiographical as I live in a rural place and this is a daily occurrence in my life.
