Circus I. Print - Limited Edition of 5

Circus is a title of a series of three etchings, developed by a combination of aquatint and etching on zink plate, printed on Fabriano Rose paper. The images depict a women performing in different scenes, defying gravity and that which we expect, creating a sense of questioning.   On ‘Circus I.’, the woman hangs by a rope fastened to her ankle, and gazing back towards the viewer. Despite gravity, the rope, nor her body is stretched and so the figure seems to levitate and creates impossible positions with her body.     On ‘Circus II.’, the audience can easily get confused, as we do not know if there are more figures or just one in a movement, and if it is the latter, where does the movement start and where is it going? The figures are suspended in space and seem to have no mass.     On ‘Circus III.’, the woman blends reality as the audience cannot distinguish the ground or the wall/background, neither the direction of the movement.  She seems to have no orientation towards earthly dimensions. These little tricks aim to leave us wonder about perception and reality not just in the circus but also in our lives which can be also a performance for someone else.
