About The Artwork
The changing colour, shape, size, mood and feeling - man is discovering the depths of this creature of the sea. It has intrigued and fascinated us for centuries. Here, using the Japanese art of Gyotaku (fish impression) a wonderful swimming impression has been made capturing what might be a mood, emotion or feeling as the small octopus moves about in its environment - ready to hunt, be hunted, inquire, rest, explore, mate and adapt - all in its short year long life. The print is made with water colour paint on fine Japanese papers with several layers mounted (urauchi) together in a traditional manner.

Informed by West Coast nature, organic forms, water, mountains, often wild landscapes and a parallel study of human machinations, Paula's work is commentary on human condition and conditioning in found environment. Pieces are created as physical experience; works hang, swing, drape, become object, or result is in traditional form. Her work is rooted in exploration, inquiry and curiosity and evolves from flat surface to three dimension or performance dependent on concept and context.
