Waterless Plate Lithograph Date: 2014 By Aleksandra Kargul Print number: 4 Edition Size: 4 Paper size (cm): 28.4 x 26.8 Image Size (cm): 28.4 x 26.8 Paper: Fabriano Artistico Hot Pressed Printed by: Aleksandra Kargul Please note, this print is sold unmounted and unframed. Interaction between people and their surroundings has always fascinated me. In my most recent work I explore the world of colour in lithography and how overlaying colours might affect our perception of the final image. I take inspiration from everyday life and the world around me: the Edinburgh cityscape, Scottish landscape and countryside. I capture those fleeting moments when mist is still floating above the grass; when glass catches the light; when day changes to night. All those tiny details which we often miss as we rush through our daily routine. Translating the image onto the paper and experimenting with how different colours react with each other creates different perceptions and moods for the image and enables us to see a familiar subject in a new way.

In my artistic journey I was always fascinated by architecture and silent beauty of buildings. During my studies at Edinburgh College of Art I met Ed Hollis who is an architect, designer and most importantly he is an amazing storyteller. In his first book: 'The secret lives of buildings' he quoted renaissance architect Leone Battista Alberti who wrote that: 'perfect beauty is that to which nothing may be added, and from which nothing may be taken away.' Since I read it for a first time I always look for that perfect moment when the building or a street is in a perfect harmony with it's surrounding and time. How do I know I found it? It feels right. It is perfect. I wouldn't change a thing.
