What makes an image an image? In my work I investigate the impact of technology on the viewing experience of images and the meanings that are constructed as a result of this experience. I question how far technology has induced a growth in the reproduction of the image and how far this distances the copy from its original particularly in terms of authenticity. I am especially interested in the screen as an intermediary device and how it has distanced us from the the natural or original images and objects in our lives and a more sensual engagement in the world. My work also plays upon how we identify with physical objects and whether the technological age has led to the visual monopolization of our sensory capacities. Do objects become mere digital components? Have we lost our sensual engagement with the world? I use analogue photography in order to come even closer to the image's materiality. I engage in an interrogation of the image through a process of deconstruction and reconstruction. I see photography as a way of re-appropriating images and through my practice I submit them to manual processes of reproduction in order to question their authorship and implicit mechanisms of creation. My main preoccupation at the moment is experimenting with the support of the image in order to make it more material in real life as opposed to it being made electronically physical by it's rapid passage through many different platforms and electronic devices.
