My objective in GOTHAM is to construct a luminous, kaleidoscopic visual metaphor of this world: expansive, always in motion, interconnected yet mysterious and unpredictable. The interlocking geometric shapes that merge, overlap, and collide in this work are designed to evoke in viewers a sense of delight and magic: a feeling of exquisite harmony existing on the edge of chaos. The medium is archival pigment print with hand coloring using soft pastel, wax pencil, and acrylic on Hahnemuhle 100% museum cotton-rag paper. Each print is individually hand-colored, merging aspects of both painting and printmaking. Each possesses its own unique variations while still being part of a larger, related series. The paper is softly textured, giving the surface a rich, lustrous appearance.
