ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This print was made with woodcut and collaged metallic paper on burlap. Wooden frame included. Inspired by the Iguazú river which flows through Brazil and Argentina. Roght at the border between the two countries, its waters fall dismally. The Iguazú Falls split the horizon in an enormous and magnificent abyss. This ocean plummeting in torrents seems harsh and inaccessible but it shelters the great dusky swift. In its relentless flight, this bird crosses the waterfall at high speed to seek shelter and nest on the vertical rock behind the wall of water. Unfortunately, dams and climate change sometimes diminish the river’s torrent. The swift will have refuge only if the Iguazú river keeps flowing abundantly.

I am a Colombian artist living in Barcelona. Through art I have been able to connect with the landscapes and culture of my ancestors. I re-imagine Latin American art through historical figures, legends, landscapes and symbology inspired by the iconography of pre-Hispanic goldsmith masters. I am inspired by the revival of historical memory, the wisdom of indigenous cosmovisions and nature. My work frequently transforms landscapes into relief engravings with metallic colors that represent the mineral richness of the earth. For the last four years I have been managing Casa Jaguar /.studio/, an art studio in Barcelona where I collaborate with other Colombian audiovisual artists with whom I share my interest in developing a visual language that integrates pre-Hispanic art with contemporary art.
