About The Artwork

This is one in a series of prints inspired by my pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. The 500 miles walked was a meditative, contemplative and rewarding experience that fueled my creativity in and outside of my studio. In addition to meeting pilgrims from all over the world, the Spainish culture, it’s people, arts, food and wine, music and architecture inspired me to produce this body of work. I hope you feel the same joy seeing them as I do making these Monotypes. Monotypes are “one-off” prints, made by painting with ink on a plate, laying archival printmaking paper on the plate and passing both through a press. The ink on the plate gets transferred to the paper, creating a unique image. Many of my prints are made by passing the paper through the press multiple times, adding layers of color and complexity with each run. I often place materials such as fabric and paper cut-outs under the paper to emboss it, creating more texture in the final print. Works are sold unframed.

I am an award winning multimedia artist with a primary focus in Monotype Printmaking. I was born in Bangkok, Thailand and now live and work in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. To achieve the aesthetic of my abstract-expressionist prints, I use cut-out shapes, vibrant colors and found-objects for textures. A print is a mirror image of what I painted on a printing plate. Monotype prints are one of a kind, but I can sometimes pull one or two more faint “ghost prints” until the ink is completely gone. A ghost print can become the base for a new, layered work. What I enjoy most about the printmaking process is the element of surprise. The thrill of exploring is addictive, and it keeps me going back to my studio day after day. A recent comment from an Instagram follower: “I’ve been following the art of @oifortin (Oi) for some time now. The simplicity in forms and lines with intriguing compositions resonate with me in some way that I cannot explain and that's fine with me. Everything in life doesn’t need an explanation!....” AA Contemporary
