Art Description

Printmaking: Screenprinting, Acrylic, Gouache, Fabric on Other.

Screenprint on stretched fabric collaged with acrylic and gouache. My desire was to create a piece that captured a timeless visual of dance and female expression through movement. This painting combines my own imagery with influence from Georgina Starr and her work ‘The History of Sculpture’. Her photographic work encapsulate the notion of female breath becoming trapped inside bubble-gum, using the material itself to do this. Bubble gum, as a feminine material creates a means of transporting and transforming. The circle thus becoming an important part in the images I created, it can carry various meanings, especially when placed alongside the female body- the womb, spiritual beliefs, and references to the cosmos.
