About The Artwork

A 12"x18" unique non editioned drypoint with spray paint stenciling. Only two, differing, prints were pulled from the plate before cutting it up and using the back. The original signature was on the left, an error, has been fully erased and replaced with 1/1 numbering but there is a slight indentation of the paper where the signature was. The print has been resigned on the right hand side.

I am currently focused on printmaking that is built on a foundation of hard-earned drawing skills. These are original, not digitally produced prints; they are hand inked, wiped and pulled by the artist. My watercolour paintings are primarily landscapes from Vancouver Island and the west coast of British Columbia. This is a landscape of complex terrain where aircraft disappear off the radar, ships founder, hikers disappear without a trace -- man-eating landscape that transfixes as it repels. I was born in Ashford, Kent, U.K., 1958, and studied drawing, painting and printmaking at The Ontario College of Art, spending the fourth and final year in an off-campus program in Florence, Italy. I've exhibited regularly in public and commercial galleries since 1981. Group exhibitions include International Waters (1991) with members of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, the American Watercolour Society, and The Royal Watercolour Society. The show travelled to Toronto, New York and London. My watercolours have also won awards, including the D.L. Stevenson Award for Excellence (2009) at the CSPWC annual Open Waters exhibition, and Best Watercolour (1999) at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. I have worked in animated film and television from 1985 to 2014 with screen credits as an art director and background artist. I have taught drawing and painting courses at the Ontario College of Art (1988-92), now OCADU, and background painting at Max the Mutt Animation School (1999-2003) in Toronto. Currently I do some instruction of drawing and rendering in Continuing Education at North Island College on Vancouver Island.
