In the late 60s and 70s he worked figurative art,returning to abstract art on the early 80's, now days, being one of the most recognized and apreciated artist in the region. Avila was a news paper founder and publicist. Now days independent artist and founder of ARTE PAPEL SERIGRAPH PRINT STUDIO. He has numerous exhibits in Guatemala, Central America, Brazil, México, USA, Spain, Japan. On 2000 appeared in Antigua Guatemala, retrospective exhibit of his work, consisting of more than 300 oil paintings inks and drawings made 1963-2000
