Art Description
Printmaking: Woodcut, Paper and Graphite on Paper.
Paper preparation has been a key process so far in my practice. The subtle variations and manipulations in the surface of the paper can greatly affect the way the ink interacts.
The idea behind the paper preparation is to represent the delicate nature of the structure of the bird. Perhaps there is an awareness about our relationship and impact with the natural environment too but it is not as conscious. The straight lines and edges of the tape also echo the layering of the wing feathers. I don't want that to be literal however so they are applied in a random fashion rather than in an attempt to mimic the arrangement of a wing.
By working with just a section of the bird rather than the whole, it allows the potential for transformation. This is supported by the choice of colour. For me there are repeating patterns and forms in nature and I am interested in exploring these echoes or archetypes.
Although using printmaking techniques everything I make is an original one of one.
Unframed.
