Art Description

Printmaking: Woodcut, Paper, Ink and Oil on Paper.

This tri-color woodcut print on Arches archival paper features an iconic pin cushion found in many homes throughout the southeastern United States. The physicality of carving a wood block, along with the traditional methods of printmaking are reminiscent of the hands on, crafting traditions that are coveted by rural American artisans. Through this work I am using my artistic practice to explore my deeply rooted connections to my Southern ancestors and the tools that allowed them to create.
