Lisa Hunt’s Rounds Negative is an abstract screen printed work on translucent Miss Thick rice paper with applied 24K gold leaf. Misu Thick is an excellent quality paper in rolls. Composed of 100% Tosa Kozo and made in the Kochi Prefecture. Great care is taken by Kashiki Mill to make this special paper. It is a graphic, gridded abstract pattern consisting of repeated squares with fragmented semi circles. Lisa uses previously used gold leaf sheets, which she has digitized and cataloged, from prints in her Alchemy series. Lisa hand applies the gold leaf to each print. Signed and numbered. The use of gold and gold leaf in Lisa’s art comes from her desire to illuminate her patterns in a way that allows them to endure. Allusions to everything from Art Deco and folk art to typographic elements repurposed and reimagined and the natural world inform her. Through Lisa’s appreciation of indigenous textiles and the decorative arts she seeks to create a visual vocabulary.
