Lisa Hunt’s Royal Palm Window II highlights the artists abstracted interpretation of palm leaves employing the layering of concentric coils. The screen printed work combines black ink on gold leaf paper. The artist created the art work to be displayed with a custom cut white matte that creates a decorative window that isolates the Royal Palm motif. Signed and numbered on the verso. The use of gold and gold leaf in Lisa’s art comes from her desire to illuminate her patterns in a way that allows them to endure. Allusions to everything from Art Deco and folk art to typographic elements repurposed and reimagined and the natural world inform her. Through Lisa’s appreciation of indigenous textiles and the decorative arts she seeks to create a visual vocabulary.

Lisa Hunt is a Maplewood, New Jersey artist whose screen printed works on paper, canvas and collage, explores the spatial and meditative relationships between patterns. Her work employs lines, symbols, and typographic elements that reveal the infinite possibilities of shape and repetition. Drawing inspiration from textiles, her distinctive use of gold leaf further expands upon these relationships. The influence of traditional West African textiles and African American quilt-making are touch stones in her practice through collage. Hunt has participated in group exhibitions at national institutions, including the Asheville Art Museum, Claire Oliver Gallery, Highpoint Center for Printmaking, Trout Museum, and the International Print Center New York. Acquisitions of her artworks are held at the Asheville Art Museum, North Carolina; Weisman Museum, Minnesota; Google Headquarters, New York.
