'Sunrise' is a giclee print made from an acrylic ink drawing carried out on hot pressed watercolour paper. It is printed on Hahnemuhle Photorag Pearl 320gsm paper. The print size is 20.4H x 27.5W inches with a 3 inch border all round. This piece developed freely by improvising with ink and a calligraphy pen on the smooth paper support. The emergent colours and a sense of the ascendant led to the association with sunrise and the dawn. The viewers' responses are personal to them. I do anticipate, though, that many shall find pleasure and a sense of optimism in this piece. . I have enjoyed working with a dip pen since my father introduced me to inkwork as a child. Abstract improvisation has interested since I was an art student in Leeds during the 1970s. Digital photography and printing allow me to reproduce my work, disseminating it to a wider public.

I was born in 1954 and was brought up in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Since graduating I have lived and worked in London. I am currently most visible in photography. I also work as a painter (in oils, acrylic and so on); I draw, and work in mixed media and collage. I also dabble in literature, such as poetry and short stories. I like to mix image and text. My themes and approaches are boundless, because I work to the principle of ‘continuous inspiration’ and pursuing what makes itself apparent. My work can be found represented on my website johndavidart.net and in the Photos albums and Notes featured in my John Sherwood Facebook account. I am currently selling my photographs, and am prepared to sell giclee prints (framed or otherwise) of my paintings, drawings and so on. My prices are readily affordable and I am prepared to negotiate if asked to work to commission.
