About The Artwork
Terra Sancta. (Jerusalem, Amman, Petra) Aquatint etching, Paper: 39.5x27 cm. Plate: 31.5x19.7 cm. 2014 Terra Sancta is part of a series of aquatint etchings that are an exploration and mapping of inner landscapes, shaped by perception and memory and inspired by journeys through Uzbekistan, Israel, Jordan, and Spain. Its components are personal stories and perceived images, all reflected against a background of history, mythology and poetry, thus linking the outside and the inside world. They are full of signs, hints and symbols referring to the settings and spaces of time I am moving in. Terra Sancta is merging memories of three places, Jerusalem, Amman, the capital of Jordan, and Petra, an archeological site.
