About The Artwork

*The image is symbolic - you can choose the combination of your own favourite "Battery" screenprints. The colorful pieces can be displayed in many different ways and variations and are easily changeable in accordance with one's taste and space capacities. Silkscreens named "Battery" are made after photographs of horses captured in rather tight studio box, taken in the years 2013/14. The title of the composition comes from the term "chicken battery", where animals are contained in aligned rows of small cells. The photography project included different riding-, cart- and slaughter horses with painted numbers on their buttocks, where the points of interest were interactions between contained animals and their inner hierarchy. Multiple works of same dimensions were materialized in the medium of silkscreen with carefully selected images, which together represent a multi-piece artwork.

Lara Ješe is an artist living and working in Kranj, Slovenia. She holds an MFA in Painting and Fine Arts, acquired at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. She has also studied at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig, expanding her knowledge in the fields of Graphic Printing. Growing up in the countryside near Kranj, Slovenia, she found her artistic interest in animals, particularly horses and cattle, which became a recurrent subject in her work. The motif allows her to explore the balance between portraiture and figure, in other words between psyche and the flesh, and to research the body within allegorical situations.
