This etching--executed on a six by eight inch zinc plate--employed the studio techniques of intaglio, aquatint, Chine collé, and drypoint. Four different baths in Nitric acid were required. The narrative was inspired by a media photo of a presidential press conference in 2017 combined with the image of an Italian Renaissance altarpiece painting by Luca Signorelli, located in Orvieto’s cathedral. Signorell's magnificent work features the devil whispering into the ears of the anti-Christ. The title, “Alea Jacta Est” is ascribed to Suetonius in his description of Julius Caesar's words (January 10, 49 BC) as he led his army across the Rubicon River in Northern Italy. In today’s lingo this phase simply means, “What’s done is done; and, we have passed the point of no return!”

The artist added marionette strings to emphasize today's manipulation of everyone by their own enslavement to ignorance . . . and the unwillingness to see, understand, and/or tolerate another person's viewpoint . . . no matter how vulgar it really is.
