Jane Fredericks has been exploring the art of collage for the past ten years alongside other work and studies that have touched on the worlds of theatre, interiors, jewellery, film and music. Her artwork is collated from various ephemera sources such as old postcards, information books, contemporary and vintage magazines and photographs. Images are set against a backdrop of domesticity and grand landscape creating an ambiguity that challenges us to question our view of the world around us. The familiar is transformed into the surreal, the sublime into the unnerving. Inspired by early Dadaists such as Hannah Hoch, early avant garde graphics and photomontage, Jane uses the aesthetics of collage in a playful and at times ironic way to address social, domestic, or personal themes. Growing up in the Lincolnshire fens, Jane went on to study Theatre Design at Nottingham University.She lived for many years in Graz Austria, and spent significant time in Greece before making London home in 1998. Her work has been shown in Europe and in London.
