I once spent an entire summer of my childhood digging through the red clay that was my family’s driveway. I unearthed old medicine bottles, pig bones, and tractor bolts. From this I was fascinated to piece together that the dirt under my family’s double wide trailer had once been a farm. Whether I am diving into the depths of collective consciousness through my poetry or carving into a block of wood for an illustration I want to still feel like I am digging in that clay. I am fascinated with uncovering the layers beneath; both physical and metaphysical excavations of collective ecological trauma and healing. As a multidisciplinary visual artist I create with a mixture of traditional block printmaking, painting, and photography. I spend much of my practice carving, drawing, and printing solely by hand. Cutting out my paper prints and quilting them into something new allows me to sustain a different subtle energy at every step. "The Golden Thread" is an ode to my Great- Grandmother, who wore many hats, including that of an accomplished quilter. The Golden Thread represents that which we pass down that is unsaid, but kept sacred and safe. Created with hand printed, cut, and colored block prints on archival paper, held together with metallic golden sewing thread. Framed with plexiglass in a reclaimed barn wood frame crafted with wood from the American South.
