It is easy to perceive another’s happiness through one’s own lens of what happiness means. This piece teaches that the sources of human joy might instead translate into sorrow in a fish's world. It is thus important to embrace another’s point of view when contemplating moments in life. Only then can one truly achieve mutual agreement with those that one comes across.

About the Travel Series: The bicycle has nearly 200 years of history. Since it's invention in 1817, the bicycle became the leading fashion trend of the aristocratic class, but it ultimately returned to the average person's daily life. Those born in the 50's or 60's in China will remember that having a bicycle was a very glorious thing. Having a bicycle to ride was a source of confidence for young people. Due to this, the bicycle has become the primary subject in Zhang Peng Ye's works. This series of work is called 'Travel'. It was completed in 2009 and it is an expression of Zhang Peng Ye's best wishes to all the people riding bicycles to continue to pursue their dreams and their ideal of living in the city. These paintings capture the mindset of the everyday struggle yet depicts that within this harsh social reality, there is always hope in moving forward towards one's goals.
